Deseret News Marathon July 24th

If you need to travel in or out of the canyon early in the morning on Pioneer Day, please be aware of the traffic control plan for the marathon:

4:00 a.m. First buses arrive at the top of Big Mountain. Runners are staged in the turnout at the top.
5:00 a.m. Last bus departs from staging area
5:15 a.m. Road closed half a mile north of the start and 5 miles south of the start in order to allow for getting runners on the road.
5:30 a.m. Race begins.
Road can open back shortly after the start.

4:30 a.m. First buses arrive at the start line (about 600 meters south of Pine Crest) Runners are staged at the side of the road
5:30 a.m. Last bus departs from staging area
5:40 a.m. Road closes at Pine Crest and at the top of Little Mountain
6:00 a.m. Race begins
Road can open back shortly after the start.

In accordance with Utah Code Section 20A-5-101(2), I, Sherrie Swensen, Salt Lake County Clerk, hereby give notice that the following offices will be voted on within Salt Lake County in 2019 along with the dates for filling a declaration of candidacy for these offices:
Council At-Large (3 Seats) 4-Year Term

The Declaration of Candidacy filing period for these Metro Township Council Offices will be held at the Election Division, Salt Lake County Government Center, 2001 South State Street, S1-200 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm beginning Monday, June 3, 2019 through Friday, June 7, 2019.

Emigration Canyon Planning Commission Meeting Jan. 17th

The Emigration Canyon Planning Commission’s January meeting is scheduled for January 17th at 8:30 AM. The meeting will be held at the Salt Lake County building at 2001 South State Street, Salt Lake City , 84190, in the North building in room N1-110.

The Planning Commissioners will be considering a request by John Walsh for a conditional use approval for commercial and private recreation, including picnic area and gazebo for picnics, parties, and other gatherings, as well as two single-lane gun ranges. Location: 2450 Pinecrest Canyon Road.

ECCC Election Results November 6th, 2018

Results from the November 6, 2018 Emigration Canyon Community Council Elections have been certified. A total of 217 ballots were cast in this election. The following candidates were on the ballot, with the number of votes cast:

  • Steve Borst – 157
  • Paul Brown – 144
  • Claire Clark – 180
  • Stephanie Harpst – 146
  • Catherine (Rin) Harris – 163
  • Michael Jimenez – 131
  • Lincoln Nehring – 166

In addition, there were ten write-in candidates:

  • Diane Anderton – 1
  • Mark Gaylord – 1
  • Lisa Green – 1
  • Hunter Jackson – 1
  • Peta Owens-Liston – 1
  • Hilary Silberman – 1
  • Robert Staggers – 1
  • Andrew Wallace – 1

  • Dillon Wheelock – 1

Six seats were up for election. There are 12 members of the community council. Every two years, six council members are elected to a four year term.
