Two construction projects affecting traffic on I-80

In an effort to keep you informed, we at the Emigration Canyon Community Council want to pass on some information we received about the road work on I-80. There are two construction projects currently affecting traffic on I-80: bridge maintenance/construction at the Foothill Drive exit, and I-80 pavement maintenance between the Foothill and 1300 E exits.

Last weekend (June 10-11), I-80 westbound was closed and drivers were directed onto the I-215 exit. Many drivers chose to drive through Emigration Canyon instead, which greatly impacted travel on Emigration Canyon Rd. The Emigration Canyon Community Council has been in contact with UDOT as well as the Unified Police Department to try to prevent such an unsafe situation in the event of future closures that might direct highway traffic into our community.

We have learned of additional road closures on I-80 this weekend. I-80 eastbound will be closed this coming weekend starting tonight, Friday, June 16th, at 9 p.m. to Monday, June 19th at 5 a.m. The detour will be onto I-215 to the 3300 S exit, and back to I-80. This will affect your drive home if you plan to use Exit 134 coming from SLC this weekend.

Next weekend, Friday, June 23 to Monday, June 26, westbound I-215 is expected to close from Foothill Drive to 2300 East.

Additionally, I-80 is reduced to one lane in each direction nightly, Monday through Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

More closures are expected from July through September.
